COMMISSION BY THE ROYAL YACHTING ASSOCIATION - 1996 to 2016 OLYMPICS

Since the memorable 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games, Brian West has been the artist of choice for The Royal Yachting Association. With each successive Olympiad, up to the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Games, Brian has been entrusted with the prestigious task of capturing the essence of competition and the spirit of The British Sailing Team. His commissioned works are not mere paintings; they are vibrant action montages that bring to life the team’s dynamic performances on the water.

Each piece is a visual symphony, celebrating the athletes’ dedication and the nation’s love for the sport. Through his art, West has chronicled over two decades of Olympic history, preserving the legacy of British sailors in a series of masterpieces that have become as much a part of the team’s heritage as their medals and accolades.

  • This was a action painting of David Gower OBE that he commissioned from Brian in 2000.

    David was captain of the England cricket team during the 1980s and was described as one of the most stylish left-handed batsmen of his era, Gower played 117 Test matches and 114 One Day Internationals (ODI) scoring 8,231 and 3,170 runs, respectively. He was one of the most capped and high-scoring players for England during his period, and only Jack Hobbs made more runs against Australia than Gower's 3,269. He was a part of the English squad which finished as runners-up at the 1979 Cricket World Cup.
